A multi-sensor IoT tracker

The ioTracker explained

The ioTracker is highly configurable and all those settings can be configured — over-the-air (OTAA) — via a downlink command, allowing you to reconfigure your ioTrackers wherever they are. You can individually tune the settings, so it fits your use case perfectly and you can solve concrete business issues.

Battery Performance

The ioTracker has an exceptional battery performance, which operates from -20° up to +65° Celsius and lasts from a couple of months up to several years, depending on your usage. We help you with power optimisation via online tools and personal support. This gives you the best possible battery life for your use case.

To give an indication, the ioTracker 3 has a 1200 mAh lithium battery. With an average spreading factor (SF10), it will be able to send approximately 90K messages with sensordata.

The ioTracker 3 Pro has two rechargeable lithium batteries with a total capacity of 7200 mAh. Depending on the network technology used, he will be able to send about 20K messages.

Positioning

The ioTracker has several internal sensors on board, which can be used for indoor and outdoor positioning.

GPS

The ioTracker uses the uBlox EVA-M8M GPS chip. This chip can maintain contact with 2 satellite networks at the same time. In addition to GPS, you can choose between Galileo, GLONASS and/or BeiDou. The position can be determined within a few meters accuracy, but the energy consumption of this method is the highest. There are various configuration options to activate GPS only when it's really necessary. GPS positioning is only suitable for outdoor use.

WiFi

The ioTracker has the Espressif ESP8285 WiFi chip on board. This makes it possible to scan for WiFi networks on the 2.4 GHz band. The networks which are found (BSSIDS), together with the signal strenght (RSSI) are added to the payload. The energy usage of WiFi scanning is relatively limited, which is why this function is performed every time the ioTracker moves. This function is suitable for indoor and outdoor positioning.

Bluetooth Low Energy

With the Nordic nRF52832 BLE 5.1 chip it's possible to use various Bluetooth Low Energy functions. This functionality is currently under development. Like WiFi, the networks which are found (BSSIDS), together with the signal strenght (RSSI), are added to the payload. Also it's possible to configure UUID filters and triggers. For example: When a certain UUID is absent, the ioTracker can automatically send an uplink or enable GPS. BLE is the most energy efficient way to determine the location and is suitable for indoor and outdoor positioning.

Firmware Updates (FOTA)

The ioTracker 3 (LoRaWAN) features Firmware Updates Over-The-Air, as we understand managing your devices should be as easy as possible. No need to send expensive maintenance engineers onsite to update each IoT device, one at a time. No need for screwdrivers. No need for custom firmware flash tools and cables. ioTracker FOTA works wirelessly and can be managed remotely. All you need is an Internet-connected Wi-Fi network for the ioTracker to connect to.

How it works

Once an Internet-connect Wi-Fi network is configured, via the ioTracker Configurator app or via a LoRaWAN downlink, the ioTracker will download and install the latest compatible ioTracker firmware version. FOTA can be initiated automatically, periodically when the configured Wi-Fi network is detected or upon a LoRaWAN downlink. The FOTA process takes approximately 2 minutes. WPA2 with PSK is supported.

Stay in control

For all ioTrackers, even those bought as hardware-only, current versions of their ioTrackers via our online console, including a timestamp of the last FOTA attempt.

Highly Configurable

The ioTracker contains multiple preset configurations, which can cover many use cases. If needed, the individual parameters can be tuned to match your business needs. Almost every setting of the ioTracker can be changed — over-the-air (OTAA) — via a downlink command, allowing you to reconfigure your ioTrackers wherever they are.

We have a sophisticated protocol specification available for our customers. Feel free to contact us for more information.

Supported Networks

The ioTracker has been tested and integrated with these networks. The ioTracker 3 is compatible with the LoRaWAN 1.0.3 standard, enabling it to function on any LoRaWAN network.

The ioTracker 3 Pro is compatible with the NB-IOT, LTE-M en EGPRS standard, enabling it to function on any mobile network.

Sensors

The ioTracker has a number of accurate internal sensors. With the ioTracker 3 Pro it is possible to connect external sensors.

Temperature

The measuring range of the TI TMP116 temperature sensor is between -25 °Celsius and + 85 °Celsius. It has a resolution of 0.01 ° Celsius and an accuracy of 0.2 °Celsius.

Light

The measuring range of the TI OPT3001 light sensor is between 0.01 lux and 83000 lux. It has a resolution of 0.01 lux and a relative accuracy of 0.2 %.

Shocks (3D accelerometer)

The measuring range of the ST LIS2DE12 accelerometer is ± 2/4/8 or 16 g. It has a corresponding sensitivity of 15.6 / 31.2 / 62.5 / 187.5 mg/digit.

High Shocks (optional)

The measuring range of the ST H3LIS200DL high g-shock sensor is ± 100 or ± 200 g. It has a sensitivity of 780/1560 mg/digit.
